Customer need
Suitable for live insulated parts in various electronic and electrical connectors, PCB terminal blocks, plug and socket internal components, relays, and switch frames. These parts feature thin walls, fine structures, and often elastic snap-fits, requiring a balance between flame-retardant safety, electrical insulation, and assembly toughness; products exported or targeting brand customers often also have halogen-free environmental requirements.
Production problem
Connector parts commonly face several issues: first, flame-retardant ratings and glow-wire requirements must be met simultaneously, which ordinary nylon cannot achieve; second, thin-wall, multi-cavity structures demand high material flowability, leading to short shots and weak weld line strength; third, snap-fits tend to break during assembly and repeated plugging/unplugging; fourth, halogen-based flame-retardant systems produce heavy smoke during combustion, and more end customers require halogen-free compliance with RoHS/REACH and other environmental standards; fifth, natural-color materials need to facilitate subsequent color matching or laser marking.
Modification solution
Recommended primary choice: [PA66 natural halogen-free flame-retardant]. PA66 offers better heat resistance and rigidity than PA6, the halogen-free flame-retardant system produces low smoke during combustion, and the natural color facilitates matching per customer color cards. UL94 V-0 is a common flame-retardant target and can be matched as needed. For cost-sensitive applications, moderate operating temperatures, or where better toughness is needed, [PA6 natural halogen-free flame-retardant] is recommended as an alternative. Final grade selection depends on the customer part's wall thickness, operating temperature, certification requirements, and trial molding verification results.
Result
Helps customers achieve flame-retardant safety, insulation reliability, and snap-fit toughness in a single material, reducing trial-and-error mold testing caused by material mismatch; the halogen-free system facilitates entry into markets with stricter environmental requirements; the natural-color base allows one material solution to cover multiple color versions, simplifying material management.
How we worked
- Requirement review: confirm part structure, wall thickness, operating temperature, flame-retardant and glow-wire requirements, and environmental standards.
- Material matching: compare natural halogen-free flame-retardant PA66 and PA6, providing primary and backup options.
- Trial molding verification: conduct trial production with customer molds, focusing on flowability, snap-fit strength, and appearance, adjusting process as needed.
- Mass supply: after verification, lock in the grade, deliver stably per schedule, and follow up on usage feedback.
